A dozen local conventional breeders soon to join forces in a community of progress

Short transport times keep stress to a minimum

Our plant in Pouldreuzic, a vital part of the local community

With a dozen local breeders, we're co-creating what we call a "community of progress". It's a new way of approaching our partnership, based on shared values and interests: respect for animal welfare, environmental protection and product quality on the one hand, and on the other, a sustainable and fair commercial relationship that enables breeders to plan for the long term and commit to a process of progress. Our community of pork progress is betting that to do things better, we have to do them together.

Here are some of the goals we have set ourselves:

  • Developing straw rearing
  • Allow pregnant and farrowing sows to roam freely
  • Put an end to painful practices on piglets: teeth grinding, castration, tail docking, etc.
  • Provide access to natural light and ventilation
  • Increase the surface area available for each animal
  • Feeding pigs GMO-free feed
  • Minimizing the impact of slurry on livestock farms

As transport is a real ordeal for the animals, we do our utmost to ensure that it takes place in the best possible conditions: working with local breeders, located less than 150km from our factory, enables us to limit transport time (and our impact on the planet!). Riding with transporters we trust guarantees us the respect of good practices and the well-being of the pigs.

Having our own slaughterhouse, one of the smallest in France with 0.3% of Breton pigs slaughtered, enables us to do things as well as possible and makes us responsible for our practices. The slow pace of production - 40 pigs an hour, compared with 500 to 800 on the big sites - is a guarantee of better meat quality, and respect for the animals and those who work on them.

  • On arrival, to limit their stress, we leave pigs who know each other in a building equipped with a mister to relax them.
  • We are the first in France (and to date the only one) to have implemented a stunning control solution based on artificial intelligence. Our aim is to eliminate the subjectivity associated with human control and provide objective proof of our mastery of humane slaughterhouse practices.
  • Our dozen butchers work both in the slaughterhouse and in cutting, which means they can change tasks several times a day.
  • They are also all trained in animal welfare, validated by a certificate of competence from IFIP (Institut de la Filière Porcine contributing to the competitiveness and sustainable development of the industry).

Infinitely recyclable, preservable... in the face of urgent environmental concerns, canned food is now back in the hearts of consumers. For our part, she has always been able to count on our support. Just like the company, Franpac, which has been making the products we use for Pâté Hénaff for over 100 years. Yes, over 100 years. A company with exceptional know-how located 17km from our workshop. A walk.

  • All our metal cans are 100% recyclable ad infinitum (provided you put them in the yellow garbage cans). Or why not turn them into a lampshade for a little reading corner?
  • Beyond Pâté Hénaff, today 75% of all our packaging comes from Brittany and 100% of our verrines are recyclable. By 2030, we aim to have 100% of our packaging made from recycled materials and 100% responsible packaging (recyclable, reusable, biodegradable, eco-designed).
  • Our sausage trays are made from at least 75% recycled plastic. Unfortunately, they are not yet recycled, as the sorting systems are not yet ready. But it won’t be long now.

Doing better also means answering all your questions! When it comes to questions, as with everything else, you need to know your classics. That's why we've listed the most frequently asked questions in an FAQ that you'll want to read in its entirety if you're one of those people who likes to read instruction manuals!

If you can't find what you're looking for in the FAQ - which can happen - ask your questions directly to Jildaz, our community manager, on our social networks.

Hénaff reports!

For the more inquisitive among you, you can consult the Jean Hénaff Group’s 2023 CSR report. Normally, everything you want to know is there. It’s quite detailed and complete, even if, as the good agri-food company that we are, we’ve tried to include images and a few graphs to make it more digestible 😉 . In any case, it’s our reference document if you want to understand and see everything we’re trying to do better to do good.

For us, respect for others and for the living is the basis of any system that seeks to be virtuous. This value is the foundation on which we have been building day after day since 1907.

For us, sharing is a tremendous source of joy and positive impact. As a company that has always been based in Pouldreuzic, we believe that sharing value is an asset for our region. We support many local initiatives because sharing is a priceless value.

For us, changing the world means doing what we can, where we are. If we know how much our times need commitment and strong actions to reinvent themselves, we also know how necessary it is to keep in mind our individual limits and the importance of the collective.

For us, being demanding means striving to do better. Every day, we pursue this quest for excellence to bring you good, well-made products.

For us, innovation only makes sense if it means doing things better. In other words, doing good. Improving the nutritional value of our products, reducing our impact on the environment, reinventing production and distribution channels, creating amazing new recipes... We are committed to putting our research and development efforts into projects that make good sense... good sense.

We're proud that our products are associated with a friendly image. Because that's one of our cardinal daily values: to do things seriously, but without taking ourselves too seriously. It's in the Breton DNA, and we're happy to keep this heritage alive.
